Registered Nurse MAP Trainer

Pay Range: $37.98–$41.83/hour

Position Description

The Registered Nurse MAP Trainer is responsible for implementing and overseeing Medication Administration Program (MAP) training in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) MAP Policy Manual (November 2025) and Service Net policies and procedures. This role ensures regulatory compliance, staff competency, and safe medication administration practices across Service Net programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide initial MAP Certification Training to Service Net staff in compliance with DPH Responsibilities in Action (RIA) curriculum and MAP Policy Manual requirements.
  • Ensure candidates meet all eligibility requirements for MAP certification as outlined in the MAP Policy Manual prior to participation in training and testing.
  • Conduct and document in‑person MAP competency evaluations, which must be completed by an approved MAP Trainer or licensed nurse, in accordance with MAP standards.
  • Coordinate MAP testing and ensure completion of all required MAP documentation and records.
  • Provide MAP Recertification Training and complete required updates to staff certification status within the TMU registry.
  • Deliver MAP Remedial Training when indicated, including completion of required documentation and updates in TMU in accordance with MAP policy.
  • Provide training and competency assessment for specialized medication administration procedures as permitted under MAP, including but not limited to insulin administration, epinephrine auto‑injectors, and enteral (G/J tube) medication administration, when applicable.
  • Maintain current knowledge of MAP regulations, policies, and procedural updates issued by DPH and ensure all training materials and practices reflect current requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of MAP training, competencies, testing, recertification, and remedial actions in accordance with MAP, DPH, and Service Net standards.
  • Communicate training status, compliance concerns, and certification issues to Nursing leadership and Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Provide training related to Transcription of Medication Management (TMM) systems and documentation practices consistent with MAP requirements.
  • Attend DBIS and MHRS nursing meetings, MAP‑related trainings, and other meetings as required.
  • Participate in scheduled supervision with the Nurse Director.
  • Maintain acceptable attendance, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Nursing Director or Human Resources.
Qualifications
  • Current, active Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated clinical assessment skills and strong medical‑surgical critical thinking abilities.
  • Experience with or knowledge of the medical needs of individuals with developmental disabilities, acquired brain injuries, and complex medical conditions.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with regulatory standards and agency policies.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license; travel between Service Net program sites is required (mileage reimbursement provided in accordance with agency policy).
