Quality System Improvement
- Improve the company's quality performance by facilitating a transition from a reactive quality system relying on inspection to a proactive integrated system that eliminates quality issues at the source.
- This will include:
- Reviewing the entire quality system and processes and making changes as necessary.
- Establishing and managing process improvement metrics to reduce customer escapes to near zero.
- Using root‑cause analysis and corrective action to eliminate quality issues.
- Working closely with engineering and operations to build a quality focus into their processes.
- Reviewing all program plans before production for quality compliance.
- Conducting and coordinating required product inspections to ensure customer quality standards are met.
- Reducing customer escapes, including cutting specific incidents and reducing the number of defective products per total products shipped.
- Assuring completion of root‑cause and corrective action analysis when escapes occur, and ensuring the process is effective and efficient.
- Overseeing quality processes during production.
- Review the entire quality process and identify key metrics to improve overall quality (e.g., scrap, rework, first‑pass yield, cost of quality, cost of poor quality, escapes).
- Integrate the metrics into the company’s new ERP system so it provides the information needed to measure quality performance.
- Implement the metrics throughout the organization and gain buy‑in from managers, leading training as necessary to ensure everyone understands measurement.
- Use the metrics to identify improvement areas and make necessary changes.
- Manage and motivate the quality team, assessing performance, creating individual plans, and implementing strategic replacements as needed.
- Ensure a high‑quality team with greater capacity and increased initiative.
- Supervise personnel and operations with operating principles that follow company policies and procedures.
- Provide necessary training for team members needing further development.
- Maintain NADCAP and all other relevant certifications with a high level of system compliance.
- Sustain outside audits and recertification audits as required.
- Develop strong working relationships with counterpart quality leaders at customer companies.
- Resolve customer issues in a timely manner and improve communication.
- Maintain a cost‑effective quality system that meets customer requirements and product approvals.
- Provide quality support for customer quality audits, source audits, failure analyses, design reviews, and sales visits.
- Act as a liaison with external parties on matters related to the quality system and product quality.
