Job Overview
The Diesel Technician will be responsible for performing all tractor and trailer repair, estimation, diagnosis, and correction following standard operating procedures (SOPs). This role includes completing routine rebuilds and replacements, making value and safety decisions to continue operation, repair, or replacement, and performing technical repairs and/or replacements.
Duties & Responsibilities- Follows workplace and vehicle safety procedures consistently.
- Follows MSDS training and guidelines.
- Performs proper preventive maintenance (lubrication, filters, inspections) including truck appearance, interior and exterior, cab-related, safety, and security.
- Basic electrical—repair and replace starters, alternators, batteries.
- Inspect and replace basic engine components.
- Proficient at brake diagnostic, repair, replacement, and adjustments.
- Direct/indirect labor accountability (completed personal paperwork).
- Follow good housekeeping standards.
- Inspect and replace drive line components.
- Remove and replace transmission and clutch (R&R).
- Advanced tools and continual upgrades.
- Valve and injector adjustments.
- Remove and replace steering and chassis components.
- Basic welding and cutting.
- Fifth wheel service and rebuild/kingpin wear.
- Remove and replace all engines.
- Diagnostic computer skills.
- Citation corrections/sign‑offs.
- May perform accident repairs on tractors or trailers.
- Responsible for completing all franchise‑mandated training (online and on‑site; travel may be required).
- Communicate with internal customers—other shop associates, drivers, other maintenance shops—regarding stances, wait times, repair decisions, and status updates.
- Perform any other duties as required.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must pass a background check and drug test.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Have at least 5+ years of diesel technician experience;
Mack and Volvo experience is a plus. - Excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more.
- Own necessary basic tools.
