Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, General Labor
- Operates light duty to heavy-duty equipment (depending on class of operator’s license) for snow removal
- Paints and makes minor repairs to Town owned equipment and buildings
- Performs tasks normally assigned to a laborer
- Installs park and playground equipment and sets up hockey rinks; maintains park areas, playgrounds and skating rinks
- Assists the Forestry dept. with operations
- Performs miscellaneous manual tasks requiring the highest degree of skill in the maintenance and care of recreation areas, athletic fields, parks and playgrounds
- Performs grounds maintenance duties: plants, seeds, rakes, fertilizes and grades, cuts, waters and trims fields and park areas
Work requires high school graduation or equivalent plus two years experience in the same or a related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience required to perform the essential functions of this position.

Knowledge, Abilities and SkillMust have a comprehensive experience in construction or maintenance work or any equivalent combination of education and experience required to perform the essential functions of this position. Must have general knowledge of the methods, techniques, procedures, equipment and materials relating to various systems construction and maintenance tasks. Must have mechanical aptitude to operate various types of equipment that would be found in flood and sewer stations as well as other public works systems.

Ability to work in setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises; to climb onto ladders, platforms and equipment; to work in extreme weather conditions; to operate equipment requiring hand and eye coordination and mechanical aptitude; to access and negotiate difficult places and varied terrain; to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds; to work independently with minimal supervision
Motor SkillsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger; handle, feel, operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Employee must have the ability to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and smell. Frequent periods supervising or inspecting, including construction projects. Ability to navigate over uneven ground frequently required.
Frequently walking, bending, standing, squatting, climbing, occasional requirement for sustained physical effort.
Position requires the employee to routinely read documents and reports for understanding and analytical purposes. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to focus.
