Wallace Montgomery is looking for a Construction Design-Build IA Inspector in Roanoke, VA. Construction Inspectors inspect, observe, and document construction and maintenance projects, performing tests on soils and materials. Work is performed under the supervision of a Project Engineer. In most cases, an Inspector’s day‑to‑day direct supervisor may be a client’s direct employee. Inspectors range from entry level to senior. All Inspectors are required to travel and be available to work anywhere in the state as assignments change.

Inspectors must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be able to work night shift when required.

• Performs field inspections of construction and maintenance projects and of existing roadways, structures and facilities.
• Conducts and/or observes and documents tests on soils, asphalt, concrete, aggregates, bituminous products, metal products and industrial coatings.
• Responds to data requests.
• Participates in traffic control activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Obtains the Nuclear Gauge Safety Training and the 10‑Hour OSHA Safety Training.
• Fills out the Inspector’s Daily Report (IDR) memorializing all labor, equipment, and material used on the project each day.
• Maintains daily progress photos of the work.
• Fills out Force Account records when there is an unresolved change, but the changed work still must be performed.
• Maintains a sketchbook that contains a variety of construction documentation.
• Participates in the reconciliation of pay quantities on progress payments submitted by the Contractor.
• Attends all meetings, as needed and appropriate.
• When appropriate, participates in change order negotiations.
• When appropriate, participates in CPM schedule meetings.

• VDOT Soils and Aggregate Inspector
• VDOT Asphalt Field 1 Inspector
• VDOT Asphalt Field 2 Inspector
• ACI Field Inspector 1 or WACEL Concrete 1
• VDOT Pavement Marking Inspector
• Guardrail Certification (GRIT)
• Nuclear Gauge Safety Training
• Intermediate Workzone Traffic Control and Flagger Certification
• OSHA 10 Hour
• DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector
• DEQ Stormwater Inspector
• 3+ Years of verifiable, documented experience in Transportation Construction Inspection in Virginia

• Proficiency with Plangrid, Procore, SharePoint, and VDOT AASHTOWare Project
• Proficiency in the review and verification of Materials Documentation
• Located within 1 hour of Roanoke, VA
• Comfortable with construction work schedules that may include intermittent night and weekend operations
