What is a Float Direct Support Professional?

Our Float Direct Support Professionals provide staffing support to the organization; they are adaptable and flexible and will have the skill set to be able to work across our program sites. Float DSP’s will be scheduled for 40 hours/week based on the openings within our organization in a combination of some pre-schedule shifts and some on-call shifts.

A Direct Support Professional (Caregiver) at Living Well Disability Services provides assistance and support to people to live well. This includes:

• Assisting people in personal cares such as eating, brushing their teeth, showering, etc.
• Supporting people to participate in the activities they enjoy... getting a cup of coffee, going for a walk, going to a movie or even a sporting event!
• Creating a welcoming home for people by keeping each persons home clean, preparing nutritious meals, and having a positive and supportive attitude with each person served and your teammates.
• Role modeling positive interactions and supporting people to have meaningful relationships
• Documenting on the services provided each day in the electronic (computer based) documentation system

Where and when will I work?

Weekend Float Direct Support Professionals must be available to work a flexible schedule and be available between the hours of 6:00 am – 10:00 pm. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week). As much as possible, a schedule may be determined a week in advance, however the position is subject to short term schedule changes. The Weekend Float Direct Support Professional will work a minimum of 3 weekends per month/6 weekend shifts per month.

Living Well provides services in homes across several different counties:

• Dakota:
  Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville, Inver Grove Heights, Mendota Heights, West St. Paul, South St. Paul
• Ramsey:
  Maplewood and Little Canada
• Isanti:
  Cambridge

What skills are required to be a Float Direct Support Professional?

The Float Direct Support Professional must have had a minimum of one years prior experience supporting people with disabilities in their homes. All employees must be at least 18 years old and be able to pass a MN Department of Human Services Background Study. This position does require a valid drivers license, vehicle (we offer paid mileage), and the ability to be deemed eligible to drive per our insurance requirements.

Applicants should be comfortable using a computer for documentation, email, and time reporting.
