Job Summary

LOCATION: CHILDREN'S MEMORIAL HERMANN/TMC

FULL TIME, DAY SHIFT

CURRENT REGISTERED NURSE LICENSE REQUIRED

Working at our Children's Heart Institute, you will collaborate with pediatric critical care medicine physicians and hospitalists, who are faculty at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, providing twenty-four hour, in-house coverage to ensure that patients with intensive care needs receive the best care possible. We offer innovative treatment methods and specialized services with ongoing cardiac training for our nursing team. As a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and one of the busiest trauma centers in the country, Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital is specialized and equipped to care for even the most severe cases.

Named one of the top 50 best children's hospitals nationally in Cardiology & Heart Surgery by U.S. News & World Report. Earned three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and outcomes in congenital heart surgery. The three-star rating denotes the highest category of quality. Four Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeons supported by a pediatric VAD and ECMO team.

Our Pediatric Heart Center encompasses both IMU and ICU totaling around 40 beds with a primary focus in congenital heart defect patients ranging in ages 0-17.

The Heart Center Quality Coordinator is an integral role for our Pediatric Heart Center. In this role you will conduct code reviews, aid in variance & quality event investigations (CAUTI, CLABSI, SSI, UPE, FALLS), lead quality meetings, review JC audit data, perform chart audits, send reports, etc.

This role requires commuting on campus, no remote work. Day shift, M-F (8 AM- 4:30 PM); no weekends or holidays required.

Ideal candidate will be flexible, detail orientated, great communicator; needs a strong commitment and passion for quality and to take initiative on any and all needs related to quality. Needs +3 years of Pedi Critical Care/CV experience. BSN & PALS/Quality certifications HIGHLY preferred.

Responsible for serving as a clinical expert in the delivery and management of comprehensive patient care, utilizing research and evidence-based practice as necessary; for expertly caring for patients from multiple services/specialties, and for more complex diagnosis.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing;
Bachelors of Nursing preferred

Licenses/Certifications
  • Current State of Texas license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing
  • Certified in Basic Life Support
  • Additional certifications may be required based on discipline and/or nursing unit requirements
Experience / Knowledge / Skills
  • Three (3) years nursing experience in area of specialty

Principal Accountabilities
  • Plans, coordinates, and directs all activities between the interdisciplinary team to direct and facilitate departmental throughput in order to attain positive outcomes.
  • Coordinates with ancillary departments such as lab, radiology, registration, and bed board to ensure proper turn-around times.
  • Makes daily assignments for all personnel according to the applicable skills inventory and the age and needs of the patient/population served.
  • Identifies and utilizes available resources to resolve problems; coordinates and collaborates with other clinical coordinators ensuring departmental staffing coverage
  • Acts as a liaison, to departmental staff, medical personnel, patients and family members; assist in any patient care concerns, issues and complaints; conducts daily leadership rounding on assigned unit
  • Utilizes critical thinking and sound clinical judgment and works autonomously to solve problems; escalates issues or notifies nursing leader/supervisor of significant occurrences, intervention, or delays, as appropriate
  • Facilitates resolution to patient problems and concerns, ensuring appropriate service recovery.
  • Acts as a mentor/coach to assigned staff and provides input into the annual performance review of those staff members
