Police Officer

Police Officers ensure the safety and security of City streets, buildings, residences, and neighborhoods. Typical duties include maintaining readiness for emergency call responses, responding to dispatches, conducting patrols, issuing citations, collecting evidence, preparing incident reports, educating staff and the public on crime safety and prevention, and performing other related activities.

• Respond to routine and complex emergency requests and situations; maintain readiness and respond to dispatches.
• Perform patrols of assigned area on foot, by motorcycle, or in patrol cars; respond to citizen requests or service dispatches; quell disturbances; investigate suspicious or illegal activities and enforce applicable laws.
• Conduct interviews and question witnesses, victims, and suspects; collect and preserve evidence; secure crime scenes; issue warnings and citations; arrest and transport violators to assigned facilities; inspect prisoners and jails for weapons or contraband.
• Coordinate with and provide information to staff and the public to disseminate educational information on crime safety and prevention.
• Prepare and maintain reports, records, logs, and other documentation for incidents and administrative matters.
• Serve as detectives, drug enforcement task force members, school resource officers, identification officers, field training officers, or other assigned functions as directed.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

• Must meet licensing eligibility requirements through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
• License: TCOLE Basic Peace Officer License.
• Valid Texas Driver's License.
• Must pass CJIS background checks from Texas DPS and maintain security clearance as required by agencies associated with the City of West University Place.
