Elementary Prep Time Specialist-PE

Summary

Under the general supervision of the Principal or other supervisor, the Preparation Time Specialist teaches classes and/or supervises students during teacher preparation period. The specialist prepares lesson plans and required classroom materials, and provides instruction in specialized subject matter areas such as music, art, science, computer operations, media center usage, physical education, languages, and health.

3.0 hours per day / 174 days per year / Salary Grade 6 $ 19.98 per hour (2026‑27 Support Salary Table). Promotions result in a 5% minimum increase.

General function:
Under the general supervision of the Principal or other supervisor, the Preparation Time Specialist teaches classes and/or supervises students during teacher preparation period. The specialist prepares lesson plans and required classroom materials, and provides instruction in specialized subject matter areas such as music, art, science, computer operations, media center usage, physical education, and languages.

• High school graduation or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Formal education or training in the area of specialization preferred.
• The equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) of full‑time education at an institution of higher education; or an associate’s degree; or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para‑Professional Test, which will be required at a later date.

• Knowledge of subject matter areas associated with assigned courses.
• Strong interpersonal skills required for interaction with students, teachers, and other school personnel.
• Ability to effectively teach assigned course subjects.

• Experience working with children preferred.
