Education & Licensure- Utah Special Education teaching license
- Out‑of‑state Special Education teaching license
- New graduates from teacher preparation programs applying for a license – submit a letter of conferral from the university on official letterhead including the degree, anticipated graduation date, and type of license, endorsement content area(s)
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university and approval for an Associate License through the Utah State Board of Education in Special Education
- Bachelor’s degree and acceptance into one of the following university Special Education programs – Weber State, University of Utah, Utah State, Southern Utah State, Western Governors, Brigham Young, Westminster, Utah Tech – and approval for the Associate Educator License within six months of hire
Applicants must also be in good standing with the university.
Documents required by licensure situation:
- State license – copy uploaded if you have a Utah or out‑of‑state license
- Associate License – copy of highest university degree and AEL eligibility letter
- Acceptance letter if accepted into one of the listed programs
- Bachelor’s degree – copy uploaded if only a bachelor’s degree
- Mild/Moderate endorsement required
- Utah Science of Reading Requirement (S.B. 241) willing to meet
- Position begins in the 2026–2027 school year
- Preference for teachers experienced in collaboration and supporting students in general education classrooms
Under the direction of the school principal, teach core content areas in accordance with the U.S. Board of Education’s Core Curriculum and district policies, providing a positive learning environment for students with mild/moderate disabilities. Differentiate curriculum, use research‑based methods, implement Proficiency‑Based Grading, and employ effective classroom technology.
Essential Functions- Develop and deliver lesson plans, instructional materials, and individualized/small group instruction.
- Use effective teaching techniques to translate lesson plans into productive learning experiences.
- Use computers and classroom technology.
- Supervise students, indoors and outdoors (recess, gym, etc.) under all weather conditions.
- Maintain student behavior standards, discipline strategies.
- Evaluate academic and social growth, maintain records, prepare progress reports.
- Implement Proficiency‑Based Learning and the Granite Way.
- Communicate with parents via conferences, calls, email, student planners, school website.
- Collaborate with professional staff about student growth.
- Attend faculty meetings, student evaluation procedures, and supports.
- Administer student attendance and standardized testing in accordance with district procedures.
- Participate in faculty committees and support student activities.
- Order instructional materials, maintain inventory records.
- Model professional and ethical standards, adhere to laws and district policies.
- Maintain effective relationships with students, families, staff, district staff, community members.
- Demonstrate professional ethics per the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
- Be a positive role model.
- Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are essential.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong computer and educational technology skills.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Team‑work and self‑motivation.
- Effective classroom management and multi‑tasking/time management.
Must meet the Utah Science of Reading Requirement. May be met by one of the following:
- First Utah teaching license issued in 2024 or later.
- Utah Reading Endorsement granted in 2022 or later.
- Successful completion of the UFOR assessment.
- Completion of Keys to Early Reading training.
- Certifications for LETRS Units 18.
- Willingness to undertake required training within first year.
- Successfully cleared criminal background check approved by USBE.
