Position Description

The School of Humanities, Arts, and Cultural Studies (SHArCS) is seeking part-time Faculty Associate team members to teach IAS 300, Career Strategies and Personal Resilience. This course guides students through instructional material designed to support students throughout their university journey and beyond. Successful candidates will connect students to course material through strong instructor presence and interpersonal skills. Syllabi and lessons are already in place and need only to be personalized with the Faculty Associates’ contact information.

Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed an average of .40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment; salary is based on qualifications and assigned teaching load.

Essential Functions of the Position
  • Teach IAS 300 Career Strategies and Personal Resilience to undergraduate students in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats.
  • Faculty Associates are required to prepare introductions to lessons and timely announcements and to offer instructive and encouraging feedback on assignments, in addition to prepare syllabus, lectures and class materials, exams, and grade assignments and exams.
  • Maintain regular availability to students including office hours as appropriate to course modality.
  • Monitor student success and regularly respond to student academic issues.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher at time of hire in the teaching field of discipline or related field.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including first-generation college students.
  • Evidence of effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in student engagement and building rapport with students.
  • Expertise in teaching courses online and/or in-person.
  • Experience with online delivery platforms such as Canvas or equivalent.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence e.g., student evaluations, syllabi, peer observation, annual evaluations, etc.

Applications in the reserve pool may then be reviewed in the order in which they were received throughout the academic year as needed until the positions are filled and/or the search is closed.
