About Energy Strategies Energy Strategies is an independent energy consulting firm founded in 1986. In its early years, it was focused on natural gas deregulation and increasing energy choice for consumers. More than thirty years later, Energy Strategies has grown into a firm that consistently provides tailored, technically grounded analysis and objective guidance in an increasingly complex energy market. Our clients include power producers, transmission developers, utilities, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and large energy users throughout North America.

We empower our clients to make informed decisions and capitalize on opportunities as markets, technologies, and policies evolve. Energy Strategies generates value for our clients by harnessing the expertise of our skilled, multi-disciplinary teams in the design and application of energy strategies and solutions. We can offer a team of consultants with the experience to provide unique insight on the most complex energy challenges.

The wide range of energy industry knowledge of our consultants enables us to form robust project teams tailored to meet each client’s specific project objectives.

Three decades of involvement in the energy industry places us in a unique position to understand market dynamics, technological advances, regulatory changes, and policy developments. Our breadth of experience enables clients to successfully navigate the complexities of regulated and deregulated energy markets, make confident decisions, and create new opportunities as energy markets evolve.

About the Role We’re looking for an Energy Policy Consultant to join our Transmission and Energy Markets group. In this role, you’ll support a diverse set of projects across the Western Interconnection, contributing research, analysis, and insights that help our clients make informed decisions in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

This position is a great fit if you enjoy digging into data, translating complex issues into clear insights, and collaborating with a small but highly skilled team.

This is an opportunity to:

  • Build deep expertise in energy markets, policy, and transmission – particularly in the West.
  • Learn directly from colleagues with decades of industry experience.
  • Contribute to meaningful work that shapes the future of clean energy and the grid.
  • Grow your career in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

  • Support senior staff in project management, report writing, and development of PowerPoint summaries to answer key project questions, and in the development of regulatory comments and filings.
  • Support in assessing various transmission and interconnection-related questions for generation developers and large load customers.
  • Participate in industry meetings, summarize key takeaways, and highlight implications of complex market and policy rules into easy-to-understand outcomes for clients.
  • Assist in developing client comments for stakeholder venues such as CAISO initiatives, the Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM), Markets+, SPP’s RTO Expansion, the Western Resource Adequacy Program (WRAP), and state utility dockets.
  • Collaborate on business development by creating and organizing data, tools, and information for future projects.
