An established, multidisciplinary consulting firm is seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to lead and support geologic, environmental, geotechnical, and subsurface investigation projects across Utah. This position requires advanced technical expertise in site characterization, environmental due diligence, construction-phase oversight, and geologic hazard assessment. The Senior Geologist will oversee complex projects, mentor junior team members, coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies, and help deliver high‑quality, data‑driven project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead multi‑disciplinary projects involving geologic investigations, environmental site assessments, geotechnical subsurface evaluations, and construction‑related materials assessments.
  • Plan, conduct, and supervise fieldwork, including:
    • Subsurface explorations
    • Logging of soil and rock cores
    • Sampling programs
    • Geologic hazard mapping
    • Hydrogeologic assessments
    • Environmental sampling
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, such as:
    • Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments
    • Geotechnical evaluations
    • Groundwater and hydrogeologic studies
    • Geologic hazard analyses
  • Interpret geologic, environmental, and geotechnical data to support engineering design and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide technical review and quality assurance for work prepared by junior geoscience staff.
Client & Regulatory Coordination
  • Serve as a subject‑matter expert for clients, project managers, municipalities, and government agencies.
  • Support permitting processes and compliance documentation involving local, state, and federal regulatory frameworks.
  • Participate in meetings, site visits, and stakeholder discussions to communicate findings and project progress.
Fieldwork & Operational Oversight
  • Lead or supervise field teams conducting drilling, test pits, trenching, environmental sampling, monitoring well installations, and site inspections.
  • Perform geologic hazard evaluations addressing:
    • Landslides
    • Rockfall
    • Fault rupture
    • Avalanche hazards
    • Expansive/collapsible soils
    • Liquefaction
    • Slope stability
  • Ensure adherence to company safety protocols and regulatory standards.
Team Development & Business Support
  • Mentor and train junior geologists, field staff, and project personnel.
  • Assist with proposal development, project scoping, and budgeting.
  • Contribute to strengthening the firm's technical capabilities and supporting long‑term client relationships.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Earth Science, or related field;
    Master's degree preferred.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive experience in geology, environmental consulting, geotechnical investigations, or engineering geology.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license required, or ability to obtain Utah PG registration within 1 year.
  • Strong understanding of Utah geology, including stratigraphy, structural geology, hydrogeology, and geologic hazards.
  • Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS, geologic modeling tools, and standard field logging practices.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing ESA reports, geologic hazard studies, and geotechnical characterization documents.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in rugged terrain and travel as project needs require.
  • Excellent communication skills, leadership ability, and technical writing proficiency.
Preferred Experience
  • Environmental sampling, groundwater monitoring, and remediation support.
  • Mining or oil & gas site characterization experience in Utah or the broader Intermountain West.
  • Familiarity with guidelines and regulations commonly used in Utah, including environmental and geological regulatory processes.
  • Direct project management experience with client‑facing responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with CAD or geologic modeling software.
