Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer II designs and operates the manufacturing systems for Aero Vironment’s Unmanned Air Vehicles. In this role, the Manufacturing Engineer chooses the best technologies and processes, plans and designs the factory, and manages the maintenance and continuous improvement of the manufacturing process. The engineer demonstrates expertise in manufacturing production processes, creates and monitors automated systems, develops new technology, and supports manufacturing processes used to produce Small Unmanned Air Vehicles.
PositionResponsibilities
- Creates equipment specifications and documentation for development, qualification, and support of assembly and test equipment for production.
- Implements Lean Manufacturing principles and applies Six Sigma methodology to achieve continuous improvement in productivity, quality, and lead time.
- Generates Value Stream Maps to reduce cycle time, waste, variation, and low production yields.
- Works on manufacturing strategies and capacity models for new and current products, including estimating and maintaining capital requisitions.
- Generates new and reviews existing work instructions, assembly procedures, and supporting documentation controlling the manufacturing process.
- Cost estimates new tooling and fixtures required to support the production floor and leads Make/Buy analysis on assemblies with cross‑functional team.
- Performs Design for Manufacturing, cost, and reliability analysis on new products with the design engineering team.
- Works with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure receipt of conforming parts and assemblies.
- Solves problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or similar field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Test Engineering or similar field in Aerospace, Automotive, or Commercial industries.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodology.
- Experience with electro‑mechanical manufacturing, drawings, procedures and Bill of Materials.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, Mini Tab, Oracle, Agile, and CAD programs (Solid Works preferred).
- Occasional travel to supplier sites (up to 30%).
- Experience with sheet metal fabrication, plastics, composite layups, printed circuit board assembly, mechanical assembly, calibration and testing processes is desired.

- Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (frequent).
This role requires weekly travel from Salt Lake City, UT to Simi Valley, CA for training during the first three months of employment. Training occurs Monday through Friday, three weeks per month. Travel, lodging, meals, and ground transportation will be provided. After the training period, the position is based in Salt Lake City, UT.
