Job Overview

Worker Type:
Regular. As a Product Engineer at Aero Vironment, you sustain engineering support for UAV systems used in military and commercial applications. Your duties include design modifications of structural components, electro‑mechanical assemblies, payloads, ground equipment, launching systems, flight‑control actuators, prototype hardware development, design verification testing, and configuration management of products. You develop and maintain manufacturing drawings and bills of materials using industry drafting standards, support design reviews, assist project managers with planning and scheduling, and collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers on mechanical component production.

Position Responsibilities
  • Sustain engineering support for a product line and manage product line configuration and change orders in the Agile PLM system.
  • Understand product design and features, be familiar with manufacturing processes, and recognize customer performance and configuration requirements.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for ongoing support and change initiation, including escalation of manufacturing and customer issues to engineering.
  • Assist in proposal and report writing, and review contracts for production orders.
  • Coordinate the transition of new products and product variants into production.
  • Coordinate the release and update of engineering design documentation, operator manuals, bill of materials, manufacturing procedures, product acceptance test procedures, and production tooling and test equipment.
  • Coordinate the development, testing, and release of product improvements and variants in cooperation with the product line manager, design engineers, and project managers.
  • Provide component obsolescence management for the product line.
  • Provide customer support for failure analysis, field bulletin technical content, and general product information.
  • Work with suppliers, purchasing, and planning to ensure resolution of technical issues that impact production.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
  • Lean Six Sigma experience or Green Belt certification.
  • 5‑8 years of related experience in a similar role, including support of products in production.
  • Experience with unmanned air vehicles, RF, digital, and communications electronics design, electronics manufacturing troubleshooting, PCB layout, schematics, and assembly.
  • Design, drafting, and CAD (Altium) experience with ASME Y‑14 drawing standards.
  • Strong understanding of configuration management principles.
  • Strong understanding of general engineering fundamentals, mathematics, physics, material properties, electronics, systems, and software.
  • Demonstrated understanding of requirements for building production assemblies, including documentation for use on the production floor.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate across technical disciplines and organizations, including program management, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, suppliers, and customers.
  • Experience and proficiency with office software and computer‑based productivity tools.

  • Agile PLM data management system product configuration management standards (MIL‑HDBK‑61A, EIA‑649‑B).
  • Competency in solving basic structural dynamics problems.
  • Ability to work on diverse problems requiring data analysis and evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Creative problem‑solving, selection of appropriate methods and techniques, and use of good judgment.
