Product Engineer – Regular

As a Product Engineer at Aero Vironment, you will sustain engineering support for UAV systems used in military and commercial applications. The role encompasses design modifications of structural components, electro‑mechanical assemblies, payloads, ground equipment, launching systems, flight control actuators, prototype hardware development, design verification testing, and configuration management of products.

Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering support for a product line.
  • Manage product line configuration and change orders in Agile PLM system.
  • Understand product design, features, manufacturing processes, and customer performance requirements.
  • Act as technical point of contact for ongoing support and change initiation, including manufacturing and customer issue escalation.
  • Assist with proposal and report writing; review contracts for production orders.
  • Coordinate transition of new products and variants into production.
  • Release and update engineering design documentation, operator manuals, bill of materials, manufacturing procedures, product acceptance test procedures, and production tooling and test equipment.
  • Coordinate development, testing, and release of product improvements and variants with product line manager, design engineers, and project managers.
  • Manage component obsolescence for the product line.
  • Provide customer support for failure analysis, field bulletin technical content, and general product information.
  • Work with suppliers, purchasing, and planning to resolve technical issues impacting production.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience or Green Belt certification.
  • 5–8 years of related experience in a similar role, including engineering design support for products in production.
  • Experience with unmanned air vehicles (a plus).
  • RF, digital, and communications electronics design experience.
  • Electronics manufacturing troubleshooting, PCB layout, schematics, and assembly.
  • Design/drafting/CAD (Altium) experience following ASME Y14 drawing standards.
  • Strong understanding of configuration management principles.
  • Strong grasp of general engineering fundamentals, mathematics, physics, material properties, electronics, systems, and software.
  • Demonstrated understanding of requirements for building production assemblies, including documentation for the production floor.
  • Ability to integrate across technical disciplines and organizations, including program management, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, suppliers, and customers.
  • Proficiency with office software and computer‑based productivity tools.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

  • Experience with Agile PLM data management system and product configuration management standards (MIL‑HDBK‑61A, EIA‑649‑B).

Physical Demands
  • Work primarily in office and manufacturing environments.
  • Must sit and stand for long periods; use hands and fingers to operate computer and telephone keyboard frequently.
  • Requires frequent travel to support suppliers, resolve product issues, participate in system tests, and support customers.
Travel Requirements
  • Weekly travel from Salt Lake City, UT to Simi Valley, CA for training during the first three months.
  • Training schedule:
    Monday through Friday, three weeks per month.
  • Travel, lodging, meals, and ground transportation provided for training. After the training period, position based in Salt Lake City, UT.
Salary

$81,481 – $115,500 per year (range may vary based on location, role, responsibilities, experience, education, and key skills).

ITAR / Export Control

This position requires access to ITAR/EAR‑controlled information. Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR or be approved for an export license. U.S. citizenship is required.
