Job Overview

Northrop Grumman Strategic Deterrent Systems division seeks a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer for the Air Vehicle Equipment integration and test team, supporting the Sentinel program. Responsibilities include architecture, development, and delivery of cable/harness engineering solutions, ownership of Special Test Equipment statement of work, and subject matter expertise in cable, harness, and instrumentation.

Requires Secret clearance vel: 10% of the time.

Responsibilities
  • Support development of lab Operational Concepts (OPSCON) to maximize test resources and meet schedule and technical requirements.
  • Assist in developing hardware acceptance test requirements and procedures.
  • Define and develop electrical drawing tree and interconnect diagrams for testing line.
  • Translate system level requirements into cable/harness requirements.
  • Establish harness/cable routing and segmentation.
  • Perform voltage drop analysis and capacitance studies.
  • Support manufacturing, procurement, lab integration, and test design.
  • Implement test and measurement systems in lab space.
  • Review and sign off on electrical harness and wiring diagrams.
  • Mentor engineers on cable/harness design and interconnects.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field with eight or more years of experience; or Master’s with six or more years; or PhD with four or more years.
  • U.S. citizen with active DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within six years.
  • Three or more years experience using CAD design tools such as NX, CATIA, or Siemens Capital.
  • Three or more years experience in cable/harness design, preferably following military and/or aviation standards.
  • At least one year experience with basic data signal types including MIL-STD-1553, RS-422, or CAN.
  • At least one year experience with harness fabrication, component selection, and installation processes.
  • At least one year experience with parts, materials, and processes for electrical harness related to power distribution, RF, communication, and high-speed data signals.
  • Familiarity with standards IPC/WHMA-A-620, NASA-STD-8739.4, and AS50881.
  • Strong communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previously approved SAP Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Proficiency with Siemens Capital or similar E-CAD program.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio, Rapid Harness, Capital, or Teamcenter.
  • Experience creating a PLM product or similar PDP.
  • Experience with wire gauge sizing, voltage drop analysis, and derating analysis.
  • Experience in electro-mechanical or instrumentation system development and design.
  • Experience with data acquisition and instrumentation systems.
  • Experience with EMI/RF principles and harness shielding.
  • Leadership or support of a development engineering team.

Compensation

Base salary range: $122,800 – $184,200 per year. Possible overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives for higher levels.
