About the Position:
This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience;
if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.
Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes
- (1) Conducting fire safety inspections on various facilities to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations;
- (2) Testing installed fire protection and suppression systems to ensure proper operating condition;
- (3) Providing training on fire protection and prevention topics to educate personnel on safety procedures.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTSIn addition to meeting the experience requirement above, applicants must also possess the following below certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M AND a State or National Registry EMT Certification indicating a future expiration date when applicable.

- National Registry Emergency Medical Technician - (if incumbent possesses a state EMT
-Basic certification s/he must be able to obtain and maintain NREMT certification within 1 year of appointment) - HAZMAT Technician
- Driver Operator
- Pumper - Driver Operator - ARFF
- Fire Inspector I
- Fire Inspector II
- Fire Instructor I
Within the first year of occupying the position, incumbent must obtain and then continue to maintain the following DoD Firefighter certification levels:
- Driver Operator
- Aerial - Driver Operator
- Mobile Water Supply - Wildland Firefighter I
