At Silencer Co, our Metal Prep Technicians play a crucial role in preparing manufactured parts to achieve a high-quality finish. This role focuses on manual deburring, tumbling, heat treating, washing, and sandblasting, ensuring parts are properly cleaned, deburred, and prepared for coating.
Key Responsibilities- Visual Inspection – Inspect parts for imperfections such as dings, dents, scratches, weld flaws, and other common issues found in metal finishing jobs. All products must be thoroughly inspected before and after completion.
- Surface Preparation – Perform deburring, sand blasting, and other pre‑treatment processes to ensure proper adhesion and finish.
- Process Monitoring – Maintain equipment and regularly inspect machines for leaks or obvious wear and tear.
- Routine Maintenance – Conduct regular upkeep of the department, clean up regularly, and follow the 5S guidelines.
- Problem‑Solving – Identify and troubleshoot metal prep related issues, evaluate solutions, and implement corrective actions.
- Data Collection & Quality Control – Use process control measurements and collect data to ensure process effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Safety & Compliance – Follow all Silencer Co safety standards and procedures, including handling of chemicals, PPE requirements, and injury prevention protocols.
- General Metal Prep Tasks – Assist with other metal preparation duties as needed and support finish processes when necessary.
- Team completion of priority orders.
- Value produced (by operator).
- Safety – Proactively identify and eliminate hazards within the workplace.
- Quality – Ensure products or services consistently meet high standards and customer expectations.
- Delivery – Keep up with demand and ensure products are delivered on time.
- Cost – Regularly participate in improvement projects that reduce production cost.
- Experience with metal finishing processes.
- Ability to operate complex hand tools and industrial equipment.
- Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective time management and ability to work both independently and in a team.
- Willingness to adapt to process improvements and changes.
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, tools, and quality control.
- Comfort using power/air tools for extended periods.
- Familiarity with Silencer Co products is a plus.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, part prints, process documentation, and work center guidelines.
- Pass a background check (initiated upon extension and acceptance of a job offer).
