The Person al Rapid Transit (PRT) department at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a PRT Electronics Specialist I.
About the OpportunityThe Person al Rapid Transit (PRT) is a totally automated public transit system consisting of 5 passenger stations, 73 automated vehicles, 2 maintenance facilities, 9 miles of dedicated guideway and a vast array of ancillary equipment. The PRT Electronics Specialist I position is an entry level position that provides electronic expertise and actions to assist in the maintenance and repair of the PRT System.
This position requires various work shifts including weekends, overtime assignments, various weather conditions, indoors and outdoors, work at all station locations and requires him/her to be drug tested.

- Assists in the application of electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, electrical/electronic testing procedures, mathematics, physics, and related subjects to test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify life safety electronics equipment; analyzes and interprets test data, adjusts, calibrates, aligns, and modifies circuitry and components recording results. Operates and interprets test results using computers, digital and analog multipliers, voltmeters, power meters, frequency counters, digital and analog oscilloscopes, AC and DC power supplies, capacitor/inductor analyzer, Fourier analyzer, strip chart recorder, communication service monitor, spectrum analyzer, function generators, specially designed PRT instruments and tools, and maintains them, soldering and de‑soldering equipment and hand tools with the assistance of the PRT Electronic Technician.
Assists in performing preventive and unscheduled maintenance on a variety of equipment such as central and station computers, control room electronics, electrification panel, CCTV, intercom system, public address system, FSK communication system, UPS including the batteries, propulsion drive systems, vehicle and mechanical interfaces, braking systems, microprocessor based fare gates, electronic signage, phone systems, and the vehicle collision avoidance system which is microprocessor based. - Performs a variety of maintenance support activities to support the overall maintenance mission. This includes operating motor vehicles with a valid driver’s license, implements emergency response plans and action for planned and unplanned events, communicates routinely with other PRT employees via UHF radio to provide and receive vital information, participates in vehicle recoveries as assigned by supervisor, attends technical and safety training as assigned, is responsible for assigned keys and the access they provide, is responsible for the tools assigned, accounts for all manhours and materials used in the performance of maintenance, opens/closes passenger stations, performs snow removal and de‑icing as assigned and supports PRT operation for special events (football, basketball, concerts, etc.).

- Job requires specific technical knowledge obtained through an associate degree in electronics from a technical or military school in electronic system theory, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of six (6) months involving the following:
- Troubleshooting
