Additional Job Description

West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Orthopaedics seek a hand surgeon qualified for appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank. The successful candidate will practice in Morgantown, WV.

• Provide excellent patient care in hand surgery.
• Actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

• MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent; eligible for state medical license.
• Completed orthopaedic surgery residency and hand surgery fellowship.
• Board certified/eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will join the hand service that includes four full‑time orthopedic hand faculty. Our goal is expertise in all sub‑specialty areas of Orthopaedics, including spine, total joint replacement, sports medicine, foot and ankle, hand, pediatrics, trauma, and musculoskeletal oncology. Our faculty are fellowship trained and respected nationally. We emphasize more than surgical expertise – our mission is to provide excellence in patient care and customer service in the delivery of that care.

As a part of a major academic teaching center, we use a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment and education of our patients. Our physicians have easy access to a full range of specialists and a variety of opinions, including orthopaedic subspecialists and experts from the WVU Spine Center.

WVU Health System is the largest health system and the state's largest employer. It has expanded specialty and sub‑specialty care in cancer, heart and vascular, neuroscience, etc. It operates West Virginia's only multi‑organ transplant center and opened a new 150‑bed Children's Hospital in September 2022. The system has more than 2,400 licensed beds, 3,900 providers, and nearly 30,000 employees. The 700‑bed academic medical center in Morgantown serves a multi‑state region including West Virginia, Western Maryland, Eastern Ohio, and Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Morgantown offers a safe, family‑friendly environment with excellent schools and recreational activities. It is just over an hour south of Pittsburgh, PA and three hours from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD.
