West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Orthopaedics seek a Sports Medicine Surgeon (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV.
DutiesThe successful candidate will practice in the area of orthopaedic sports surgery. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. This will involve teaching in the clinic, operating room, and didactic settings. Interest and success in scholarly research is expected. This is a full-time faculty position with an emphasis on caring for patients with a wide variety of sports medicine related injuries.
QualificationsApplicants must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical licensure. Candidates must have completed an orthopaedic surgery residency and sports medicine fellowship and be board certified/eligible in orthopaedic surgery. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
About the Department of OrthopaedicsOur Department of Orthopaedics has approximately 40 full-time faculty in all sub‑specialty areas of Orthopaedics including spine, total joint replacement, sports medicine, foot and ankle, hand, pediatrics, trauma, musculoskeletal oncology, and basic science. Our faculty are fellowship trained and respected nationally, but we emphasize more than surgical expertise - our mission is that as the Department of Orthopaedics at West Virginia University, our thriving, collaborative team of musculoskeletal specialists is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care by achieving excellence in patient outcomes and continually improving our clinical operations.
Academically, we are committed to providing a comprehensive orthopaedic education program that attracts exceptional applicants and encourages the personal and professional development of residents, faculty, and learners at all levels. As a leader in research, we will conduct efficient, collaborative, and translational research that improves patient outcomes, develops innovative solutions, and advances musculoskeletal research from the bench to the bedside.
As a part of a major academic teaching center, we use a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment and education of our patients. Our physicians have easy access to a full range of specialists. Our sports practice serves West Virginia University athletic programs, working closely with coaches, athletic trainers, and other healthcare professionals.
The West Virginia University Health System is West Virginia's largest health system and the state's largest employer. The Health System operates West Virginia's first and only multi‑organ transplant center, and opened a new, 150‑bed Children's Hospital in September 2022.
