Location: Keyser Middle School

Employment Term: 200 days annually

Salary: $44,490 – $73,037 (based on 200 days)

Qualifications: WV Professional Teaching Certificate:
Multicategorical Special Education 5‑8 and Autism 5‑8 required.

Applicants not employed by Mineral County Schools: Provide a resume and three letters of reference. List all work experience.

Immediate Supervisor: Principal

FLSA/Contract Status: Exempt

Evaluation: Performance evaluated by building principal (immediate supervisor) and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2‑12, WV State Board Policy 5310 and Mineral County Board of Education Evaluation Policy.

Job Summary

Provide appropriate instruction to students and ensure that the students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate grade level.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of WV College and Career Readiness, district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required;
  • Use 21st Century Technology skills to strengthen the teaching/learning process;
  • Deliver rigorous instruction to all students;
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles;
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by WVDE and board policies, and administrative regulations;
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned;
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to support school-wide academic performance goals and instructional activities;
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP);
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements;
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s);
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits;
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and informative testing;
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor, plan and implement co‑curricular activities/programs, such as curricular fairs, awards programs, and/or field trips as designated by the principal;
  • Maintain a positive role model for students;
  • Support mission of school district;
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students;
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with WV Board of Education Policy 4373 (Expected Behavior in Safe and Supportive Schools) and student handbook;
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers to support student learning;
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members;
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly;
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve Standards of Practice for self and colleagues;
  • Keep informed and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers;
  • Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required;
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required;
  • Adhere to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Mineral County School’s Policy 3210; and
  • Perform other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent and/or immediate supervisor(s).
Qualifications
  • Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specialization and grade levels, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2;
  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate; and
  • Meets the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a
