Description:
Under the direction of school leadership, performs responsible financial bookkeeping using the School Funds Online (SFO) and the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Business Hub to manage all school funds that flow in and out of a middle or high school in compliance with MCPS guidelines. Responsibilities include handling all school-related financial transactions as part of the middle or high school office functions, maintaining contact with students, school administrative and instructional staff, central office staff, and vendors.
Collaborates with school leadership to provide accurate records that follow GAAP. Manages funds in the Independent Activity Funds (IAF) and the school operating budget in accordance with board policy, state statutes, and system guidelines. Works with school staff and the community to facilitate the IAF. Physical Demands: as required by the duties. Special Requirements:
Completion of School Finance Training Part I and Part II, Business Hub training, and SFO training after hire.
- Perform responsible financial bookkeeping using SFO and MCPS Business Hub for school funds.
- Ensure compliance with MCPS guidelines and GAAP in all financial transactions.
- Manage Independent Activity Funds (IAF) and the school operating budget.
- Collaborate with school staff and leadership and engage with the broader community to facilitate IAF.
- Serve as a financial contact for students, staff, central office personnel, and vendors.

- Thorough knowledge of bookkeeping, modern office practices and procedures, standard records procedures, business English, and computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, and financial record systems).
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Ability to plan, obtain, and oversee funds to maximize resources; research and obtain outside services for the school.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse school community, including leadership, students, staff, central office staff, and community groups.
- Knowledge of school regulations, policies, procedures, and school financial operations; ability to maintain financial records and prepare reports.
- Knowledge of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System.
- Associates degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Coursework in bookkeeping, accounting, and business administration preferred.
- Two plus years of accounting experience or equivalent business experience managing funds in an active office.
- Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered.
