Description
The Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for tenure‑track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering, anticipated to start as soon as August 2027. The appointment will be within the Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE). Applicants focused on the departmental core strengths of robotics, energy systems, and materials science are especially encouraged to apply.
MMAE currently has 30 faculty members and serves approximately 660 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students. The department sponsors externally funded research exceeding $19 million and maintains active research labs in materials science, energy systems, aerospace systems, and robotics. Undergraduate programs emphasize experiential learning and have a record of success in national and international competitions.
Qualifications- Earned Doctorate in mechanical engineering, materials science, robotics engineering, or a closely related field, at the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated ability or potential to develop and sustain an internationally recognized, externally sponsored research program.
- Proven collaborative skills within multi‑disciplinary teams across WVU, other academic and government institutions, and the private sector.
- Experience teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Evidence of professional service within and outside the university.
- Substantial record of peer‑reviewed publications, effective communication skills, and potential to attract competitive research funding.
- For Associate Professor rank: outstanding record of teaching, research, and service.
