Employment Term:
Minimum 200 days annually (per WV Code §18-5-45). Extended terms may be established by JCBOE.
Salary:
Commensurate with experience and education, per Jefferson County Teacher Salary Schedule.
Evaluation:
Performance evaluated by building principal/immediate supervisor in accordance with WV State Code and JCBOE Evaluation Policy.
Provide appropriate instruction to elementary students and ensure that the students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate grade level.
Major Position Responsibilities / Essential Functions- Plan, implement, and assess Jefferson County Schools’ curriculum based on WV Content Standards.
- Implement adopted and supplemental academic programs.
- Implement 21st‑century technology skills.
- Plan and implement inclusion with special education students.
- Plan and implement co‑curricular activities such as curricular fairs, awards programs, and field trips.
- Administer approved formative and/or summative assessments.
- Plan and implement tiered instruction for reading and math.
- Implement students’ IEPs and 504 Plans and recommend revisions when needed.
- Adhere to JCS Grading and Achievement Policy.
- Collaborate with students, parents, and peers to promote and support student learning.
- Support aides, student teachers, and volunteers to provide an effective learning environment.
- Collaborate with interventionists, share data, identify student needs, and support targeted interventions.
- Foster a safe and supportive classroom climate conducive to learning.
- Meet professional responsibilities and maintain professional work habits per Teacher Code of Conduct.
- Implement programs designated by the Principal for school improvement.
- Perform supervisory or other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the required specializations and grade levels, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3‑2.
Criminal background check per WV Code §18‑5‑15c and/or §18A‑3‑10.
Demonstrated knowledge of elementary content and curriculum.
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
Physical/Mental RequirementsFrequent reaching, standing, walking, lifting (at least 10 pounds), using technology, and repetitive motions.
Close vision necessary for reading handwritten or typed material. Must maintain emotional control under stress.
Work EnvironmentIndoors (educational settings), occasional outdoor recess and field trips. Noise level moderate (20‑60 dB) with higher noise in gymnasiums and laboratories (60‑90 dB). Requires continuous interaction with colleagues, public, vendors, staff, and students.
Additional Job InformationIndividuals who have retired from a West Virginia school system are not eligible for re‑employment until 60 days after retirement.

Job Requirements- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
