Substitute Teacher – FULLY CERTIFIED ONLY

Starting Date: Immediately

Position: Substitute Teacher – Must hold a West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate or Permit (new college graduates welcome pending certification). This role is not accepting applications from candidates without a teaching certificate or permit at this time.

Salary Range: Substitute Professional Daily Salary Schedule based on experience and education level per Putnam County Board of Education salary schedule.

Job Description: The substitute school teacher is assigned to deliver a comprehensive program in accordance with state law and the West Virginia Board of Education and county policies and regulations.

• Holds or qualifies for a West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate.
• Successfully complete all onboarding paperwork required by the Personnel Department, including background check, drug screening, resume, letters of reference, past evaluations, and official college transcripts.
• Excellent communication skills—verbal and written.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of student matters.
• Outstanding organizational skills.
• Effective time and responsibility management.
• Professional in appearance, attitude, and demeanor.
• Adheres to Putnam County Policy 4.9, Employee Code of Conduct, and Policy 4A.2, Employment of Substitute Teachers.

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
