Salary: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-17, salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package (WVSDT Benefits & Total Rewards) equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
Job SummaryProvide instruction to ensure that students meet learning objectives and standards for the appropriate content.
Duties and Responsibilities- Implements the WV Schools of Diversion and Transition approved program of study.
- Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning, mimicking a real work setting which allows students to practice professional skills and behaviors in a controlled space.
- Utilizes instructional techniques and methods, which increase student learning.
- Monitors student progress toward mastery of instructional goals and objectives.
- Communicates effectively within the educational community and collaborates with Special Education Teacher to implement IEP’s when developing lesson plans.
- Meets professional responsibilities.
- Complies with host agency’s policies and procedures, working in a cooperative manner with host agency staff to ensure a safe and secure environment and the integration of treatment and educational goals.
- Maintains and upgrades professional skills.
- Maintains a comprehensive inventory of supplies essential for the efficient operation of the program.
- Maintains a safe and secure classroom, ensuring students pass all safety components for their program of study.
- Prepare students to sit for a minimum of one Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) exam, as well as OSHA 10 certification and 6S.
- Maintains appropriate tool control utilizing proper inventory and security of all tools, equipment, and consumable supplies. Inspects and maintains all tools and equipment to ensure their safe working condition and accuracy.
- Trains students in various types of automotive systems, such as but not limited to:
Tire Repair and Replacement, Automotive Service Consultant, Maintenance Services, Diagnosis and Repair of various systems. - Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
- Required:
- Qualifies for or holds West Virginia Career and Technical Education Licensure, as required under State Board of Education Policy 5202.
- Wage-Earning Experience – HS diploma with four years (8,000 clock hours) of satisfactory and reasonably continuous work experience in the welding field; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree – Hold a bachelor’s degree AND complete two years (4,000 clock hours) of satisfactory and reasonably continuous work experience in the area for which licensure is requested; OR
- Associate Degree – Hold an Associate Degree in an area related to the specialization AND complete two (2) years (4,000 clock hours) of satisfactory and reasonably continuous work experience in the area for which licensure is requested.
- Completion of a full year of training from an approved education program in the specialization may count toward a half year of the work experience requirements.
- Meets testing requirements as outlined in the West Virginia CTE Endorsement and Testing Manual maintained on the WVDE website.
- Industry credentials issued by the National Institute for Automotive Services Excellence:
- A4 - Suspension and Steering
- A5 - Brakes
- A6 - Electrical/Electronic Systems
- A8 - Engine Performance
- Possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully; (a) perform the job requirements (b) work within a correctional setting and (c) work as part of an education and rehabilitation team in concert with others.
- Qualifies for or holds West Virginia Career and Technical Education Licensure, as required under State Board of Education Policy 5202.
- Desired:
- Prior teaching experience (3 years preferred).
- Experience in working in a correctional facility.
- Experience in working in an interagency setting.
