Adjunct Instructor of Mathematics
Concord University's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for adjunct faculty positions in Mathematics. Adjunct instructors will teach introductory mathematics courses—including Quantitative Reasoning, College Algebra, and Elementary Statistics, as well as associated corequisite support sections. Courses may be offered in person on Concord University's main campus in Athens, WV, and/or online, depending on departmental needs. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to high-quality undergraduate instruction, support for student success in foundational mathematics, and alignment with Concord University's mission of fostering academic excellence and a supportive learning environment.
Applicants must hold a master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field.
To perform this role successfully, an individual should be able to:
- Prepare and deliver instruction in introductory mathematics courses in alignment with the established course map, in both in-person and online formats.
- Develop and maintain course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and supplemental instructional resources.
- Assess student learning through assignments, tests, and other evaluations, grading fairly and consistently, and providing timely feedback to support student progress.
- Contribute to General Education Assessment by collecting, documenting, and reporting required course data.
- Maintain regular office hours to provide academic support, assist with course-related questions, and contribute to student recruitment and retention efforts.
- Keep accurate records of attendance, grades, and other required documentation in compliance with federal FERPA regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Dean.
Minimum Education
- Master's
Required Licenses/Certification
- Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field.
Required Skills
- Solid understanding of introductory mathematics, including quantitative reasoning, algebra, and statistics Strong teaching and communication skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly to a wide range of learners Ability to create a supportive and engaging learning environment Skill in developing instructional materials and using effective teaching strategies Proficiency with learning management systems and basic instructional technology Strong organizational abilities, including timely grading, accurate record-keeping, and adherence to academic policies Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students Commitment to Concord University's mission and to supporting student success in foundational coursework
