Job Description

Student Assistance Facilitator
- Split between Burke Street and Hedgesville Elementary School.

POSITION: Itinerant Student Assistance Facilitator

RESPONSIBILITY: To provide Special Education, homebound, and referral services to students and their families and to oversee alternative settings for students.

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Principal, Special Education and Teaching & Learning Administrators

EMPLOYMENT TERM: 210 Days

SALARY: According to BCS Teacher Pay scale with degree level and years of experience and coordinators index.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold or have ability to obtain a West Virginia teaching certificate
  • West Virginia administrative endorsement preferred
  • Knowledge of SAT and IEP process
  • Knowledge of BCS policies and procedures on homebound
  • Knowledge of WVEIS 2.0
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient organizational skills
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Must have good evaluations and/or recommendations from previous employers/supervisors
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with school personnel, students, parents, agencies, and the general public
  • Ability to compile notes and write reports
  • Ability to successfully carry out the responsibilities of the position

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Chair IEP, Eligibility and 504 meetings as Designee, as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with OSE coordinators to support and train new Special Education teachers
  • Work with advocates and ensure correct administrative staff is notified and involved in meetings and SAT referrals
  • Attend all IEP meetings and ensure reports/documentation are completed in a timely manner to meet compliance (transition, goals, etc.).
  • Follow yearly Special Education and discipline checklists requirements.
  • Participate in SAT meetings concerning data review and potential referrals for 504 or Special Education evaluations
  • Support SBBT team and the Manifestation Determination process
  • Support permanent substitutes as needed
  • Support and monitor all alternative education settings:
    Virtual school, OSE, Transitional school, option pathway, homebound
  • Input accommodations into College Board for state testing
  • Monitor to ensure IEP requirements have been met by staff
  • Assist administration and staff with student relations, professional development, student discipline, attendance, and instructional programs.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE

SKILLS:

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.
