Jefferson County Schools – Ranson Elementary, Ranson, West Virginia.

Position Details

Employment:
Minimum 200 days annually.
FLSA Status:
Exempt.
Term: §18-5-45; extended terms may be established by JCBOE.
Salary: pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, commensurate with experience and education level, per Jefferson County Administrative Salary Schedule.

Job Description

Assistant Principal responsible for assisting the Building Principal in supervising the school, ensuring compliance with county, state, and federal policies, and promoting a positive school environment.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Assume full administration of the school in the absence of the principal, subject to the same definitions and limitations of responsibility and authority as the principal.
  • Assist in distribution and inventory of textbooks and instructional supplies.
  • Assist in the supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff, including extracurricular assignments.
  • Assist in the preparation of Federal, State, and County reports.
  • Assist in development of the master schedule.
  • Assist in coordinating ancillary services necessary for the operation of the school, including budgeting, transportation, and support services such as child nutrition, custodial services, pupil services, health and social services, federal programs, special education, common planning, and technology integration.
  • Assist the staff with student relations, staff development, community relations, student discipline, student attendance, student supervision, the instructional program, and the Local School Improvement Council.
  • Implement and administer regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to student conduct.
  • If assigned responsibility for athletic program, manage all aspects of athletics, including scheduling, equipment inventory, budgeting, and officials.
  • Assist in arranging substitute teachers, providing orientation, and evaluating performance.
  • Promote a positive school environment and utilize the faculty senate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications
  • Valid teaching certificate/licensing in West Virginia for the relevant specializations and grade levels.
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Hold or be eligible for a valid West Virginia administrative certificate at the appropriate programmatic level.
  • Completion of the West Virginia Evaluation Leadership Institute.
  • Minimum three years successful teaching experience; preference for experience at the appropriate programmatic level.
  • Knowledge of school curriculum at the appropriate programmatic level.
  • Knowledge of County, State, and Federal policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others as part of an educational team.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate computers and technology in educational leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement innovative programs related to the appropriate programmatic level.
  • Demonstrates self-control.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and willingness to respond to constructive criticism.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Physical Demands

The role requires frequent reaching, standing, walking, lifting up to 10 pounds, and use of technology such as computers and multimedia equipment. The position includes interaction with the public and requires responsiveness to demands from multiple stakeholders.

Work Environment

Predominantly indoor with occasional outdoor activities. Noise levels are low to moderate in classrooms, moderate to high in halls, gyms, and labs.
