Location: Potomac

Under direction, the principal is responsible for administering and supervising the total school program and providing educational leadership for students and staff members consistent with the educational goals of the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish a climate conducive to learning.
  • Define roles for staff and students.
  • Plan and coordinate programs.
  • Effect change and make decisions.
  • Delegate duties to assistants for implementation.
  • Respond to school requirements at any time.
  • Attend evening and weekend meetings as required.
  • Work beyond a mandatory 40‑hour week.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools policies, the Call to Action Plan, Program of Studies, and state and federal regulations and laws.
  • Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and pupil services.
  • Demonstrated competence in staff selection, training, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Problem‑solving skills and ability to act effectively under stress.
  • Ability to motivate, encourage, and work with staff to ensure outstanding performance and good morale.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
Education & Experience

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in supervision, educational administration, or elementary school curriculum. Doctorate desirable. Minimum of five years in teaching, administration, or supervision, of which at least three years must have been teaching in an elementary or early childhood classroom. Completion of an administrative internship program is preferable. Experience as an assistant principal required.

Compensation & Benefits

Wage range: $143,191 to $203,839. Benefits information is available at
