Job DescriptionThe Assistant Principal assists the Principal in the performance of the various leadership responsibilities, which are attendant to the successful administration of the school. The specific duties are assigned by the Principal.

Masters Degree, West Virginia administrative certificate, three years successful teaching experience.

Schedule:
Berkeley County Schools Teacher Pay Scale based upon degree level and years of experience plus appropriate school assistant principal index.
Endorsement Code: 0003-Principal Elementary/Junior High School, 0012-Elementary/Middle/Junior High School Principal, 0015-Principal (PK-AD)
Responsibilities- Maintain positive work habits: adhere to safety, hygiene, and health standards; be punctual; demonstrate flexibility; use good judgment and make sound decisions; cooperate with educational team; follow all policies.
- Serve as acting principal in the Principal’s absence, assuming full charge subject to same responsibilities.
- Supervise, distribute, and inventory textbooks and instructional supplies.
- Prepare reports and coordinate ancillary services such as transportation, support services, pupil services, health and social services, federal programs, and special education.
- Assist staff with student relations, personnel development, community relations, student discipline, attendance, and the instructional program.
- Review, select, and recommend equipment and instructional supplies.
- Conduct needs assessments and recommend curricular offerings and program innovations.
- Schedule extra‑curricular activities, classes, and prepare student schedules.
- Maintain discipline and design alternative methods of discipline for both instructional and ancillary staff.
- Implement teacher accountability systems: reviewing lesson plans, monitoring grades, documenting student progress, reviewing homeroom registers.
- Enroll, orient, and place students.
- Coordinate county activity calendar; supervise county contests and competitions.
- Coordinate state testing program and college entrance placement activities.
- Supervise school‑sponsored activities involving students during out‑of‑school days.
- Monitor and document student progress and statistics such as attendance and drop‑out information.
- Supervise instruction and evaluation; implement the school’s instructional program.
- Plan and present staff development programs; facilitate scheduled faculty and instructional meetings.
- Arrange substitute teachers; provide orientation and evaluate performance.
- Maintain or upgrade skills: pursue self‑improvement, accept constructive criticism, attend in‑service training and workshops.
