Employment Term:
Normal contract – 200 days, typically eight hours per day, with flexibility for bus runs or student needs. Anticipated start date:
August 13, 2026.
- Support instructional activities under the direction of the teacher, providing individual and small group student support.
- Assist in preparing and organizing instructional materials.
- Assist with student supervision in classroom and school settings to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
- Support student academic, behavioral, and social development.
- Assist students with personal care and daily living needs as required, including toileting.
- Assist with transitions, lunch duty, playground supervision, and in other locations as needed.
- Communicate effectively with staff regarding student needs while maintaining confidentiality and following all policies and procedures.
- Perform bus duty and/or bus run as assigned by county/school administration, including assisting in boarding and disembarking from school buses.
- Perform first aid on students/staff as needed.
- Other duties of an Aide/ECCAT nature as directed by the principal or other county supervisors.
- Provide demonstrable competencies in reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics.
- Pass the initial West Virginia Service Personnel test for Aide.
- Demonstrate verbal and written expression as well as the ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrate the ability to appropriately manage young children through the use of positive behavioral management techniques.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of first aid.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must obtain and maintain ECCAT certification per WVDE requirements (temporary/permanent certification requires completion of online courses and initial certification requires successful federal and state background checks).
- Complete the initial/yearly Bus Training offered by the transportation department along with CPI training on nonviolent de-escalation and restraint techniques, CPR/AED, Food handlers, among others as directed by supervisor.
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, and see. The employee must be able to move chairs or desks on a daily basis.
The employee may occasionally lend assistance lifting or restraining students through non‑violent crisis interventions.
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the functions of this job. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors but may also include outdoor activities, hallways, cafeterias, gyms, auditoriums, buses, and other school‑related locations, sometimes under varying weather and temperature conditions. The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to occasionally loud and may include student conversations, instructional activities, announcements, alarms, and outdoor or large‑group settings.
The work environment may involve frequent movement of students, visual and auditory monitoring, exposure to communicable illnesses, and occasional exposure to emotionally or physically challenging student behaviors consistent within a school setting. Traveling as a passenger on a school bus may be necessary.
