Contract/Hourly Employment / After School Programs

Salary and Terms

$25 per hour. One-year, terminating contract for the 2026‑2027 academic year. Minimum 2 hours per day for 4 days with additional 2 hours prep/data collection per week for a total of 10 hours per week for up to 110 program days. MANDATORY Save the Children training required. The anticipated program start date is September 8, 2026, with additional prep and closing days scheduled, as needed, by the site coordinator.

Evaluation

Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310.

Employment Requirements

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the School System.

Qualifications
  • Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2. Elementary Education K-6 or Multi Subject K-8.
  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.
  • Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a.
  • Perform duties as described in the job description below.
  • Duties and Responsibilities
    • Work with school administrator(s) and teachers to identify students with deficient reading and/or writing and/or math skills based on available classroom performance records and test data.
    • Develop and deliver a site‑based reading, writing, and math tutoring program for selected students.
    • Monitor and report student progress as required.
    • Collaborate with regular education teachers monthly to align services/instruction to help meet student needs.
    • Provide ELA‑related enrichment activities in areas such as drama, creative writing, etc.
    • Maintain and submit student records for attendance.
    • Submit progress reports to parents and school monthly.
    • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
    • Assist with programs planned for family members of students and community members.
    • Arrive and depart at designated times.
    • Use planning time effectively.
    • Other duties as assigned by building principal or program administrator.

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.

    Work Environment

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20‑60 dB).

    Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60‑90 dB).
