    Terms:

    $27 per hour. One‑year terminating contract for the 2026‑2027 academic year. Minimum 2 hours per day for 4 days for coordinating duties with additional 4 hours prep/data collection per week for a total of 12 hours per week for up to 110 program days. Mandatory Save the Children training required. Anticipated program start date is September 8, 2026, with additional prep and closing days scheduled, as needed.

  • Evaluation: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code, WV State Board Policy, and Nicholas County Board of Education Policy.

Job Summary

Provide support, instruction, and oversight of after school program.

Qualifications
  • Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2. Elementary Education K-6 or Multi‑Subject K-8.
  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.
  • Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a.
  • Save The Children Training required.
  • Perform duties as described in the job description below.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non‑prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the School System.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate and timely records are submitted to SCORE and 21 CCLC on a weekly basis.
  • Oversee the implementation of Extended Day or year Program:
    • With input from school administrators and distribute and collect enrollment forms for participation in summer programming. This process may vary by site.
    • Organize and monitor the delivery of educational opportunities to enrolled children.
    • Work with program staff (if applicable) to organize children into groups of fifteen based on grade levels, reading levels and behavior management concerns.
    • Send completed weekly planning templates and Child Family Checklists by Monday of each week to your Program Specialist.
    • Communicate regularly with the Program Specialist.
    • Talk with your administrator or site supervisor to ensure educational kits and products are distributed to families prior to program start date. This process should be repeated every two weeks, or as needed. May vary by site.
    • Ensure that all children have been contacted within first week of program start date to confirm enrollment in the program.
    • Distribute activity calendars and other resources to families, with the help of your Program Specialist, if applicable.
    • Incorporate time into daily schedule to complete weekly Planning Templates and review of Child Family Checklists.
    • Incorporate time into daily schedule to contact families using one or a combination of the following platforms: phone call, text, email, social media/school App, postcard (to be used when other methods of contact have not been successful).
    • Address individual family needs with appropriate staff and devise possible solutions (completing a book talk).
    • Incorporate “open office hours” into daily schedule to help support children with activities.
    • Begin implementing a combination of online and offline activities each week. These may include sending home recipes families could make, food distribution or recording/leading an online activity. Activities will vary site by site.
    • Facilitate incentive programs developed for children and families.
    • Establish relationships with families.
  • Establish frequency of contact with families by end of first week of enrollment.
    • Children in grades K‑1 should be contacted twice a week (if possible).
    • Children in grades 2‑5 should be contacted once a week.
  • For parents and caregivers, take time to model and explain how to use the manipulatives included in their kits appropriately and expectations for participating in weekly contact and online/offline activities.
  • Use the Discussion Guide to identify family‑specific areas of focus and support.
