Position Details
- Title: Aide / Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT)
- Location: Center McMechen Elementary
- Employment Term: Normal contract: 200 days, typically 8 hours per day, flexible as needed by bus run or student needs. Anticipated start date:
August 13, 2026. - Bid Period: July 16-22, 2026 (3 p.m.)
- Support instructional activities under the direction of the teacher, providing individual and small group student support.
- Assist in preparing and organizing instructional materials.
- Assist with student supervision in classroom and school settings to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
- Support student academic, behavioral, and social development.
- Assist students with personal care and daily living needs as required, including toileting.
- Assist with transitions, lunch duty, playground supervision, and in other locations as needed.
- Communicate effectively with staff regarding student needs while maintaining confidentiality.
- Bus duty and/or bus run as assigned, including assisting in boarding and disembarking from school buses.
- Perform first aid on students or staff as needed.
- Perform other duties of an Aide/ECCAT nature as directed by the principal or county supervisors.
- Demonstrable competencies in reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics.
- Pass the initial WV Service Personnel test for Aide.
- Demonstrate verbal and written expression and the ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrate ability to manage young children using positive behavioral management techniques.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of first aid.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must obtain and maintain ECCAT certification per WVDE requirements (temporary/permanent certification requires completion of online courses and initial certification requires successful federal and state background checks).
- Complete the initial/yearly Bus Training offered by the transportation department along with CPI training on nonviolent de-escalation and restraint techniques, CPR/AED, food handlers, among others as directed by supervisor.
The physical demands of this job include stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pulling, pushing, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing. The employee must be able to move chairs or desks daily and may occasionally lift or restrain students through non‑violent crisis interventions.
Work EnvironmentWork primarily indoors in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, gyms, auditoriums, buses, and other school-related locations. Weather and temperature conditions may vary. The noise level ranges from moderate to occasionally loud and may include student conversations, instructional activities, announcements, alarms, and large-group settings. The environment may involve frequent movement of students, visual and auditory monitoring, exposure to communicable illnesses, and emotionally or physically challenging behaviors.
SalarySalary is based on experience and education level per the MCS BOE salary schedule. Pay grade E‑1.
