Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (may include classroom and transportation duties)
Employment Term: 200 days annually
Salary:
Pay Grade E or F; $28,765 – $43,650 (based on 200 days); varies with experience and applicable supplements per Mineral County School Salary Schedule
The aide/paraprofessional/ECCAT is assigned to a Pre‑K or Kindergarten classroom. The aide assists the teacher(s) in implementing the instructional program, works directly with students in small groups or one‑to‑one, establishes effective rapport, motivates students, etc. The aid assigned to a school bus assists with the supervision of student passengers.
Performance Responsibilities- Assist teacher with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials
- Conduct learning games according to established procedures
- Maintain regular attendance and comply with State Law and County policies
- Maintain a safe learning environment
- Anticipate and address unforeseen crises when working with large groups of children
- Assist with supervision and instruction of children; copy, cut, color, etc., to construct materials and bulletin boards
- Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to reinforce skills taught by the teacher
- Assist in implementing lessons based on district and school objectives and student abilities
- Assist with supervision of student passengers on buses and maintain a safe traveling environment if assigned to transportation duties
- Attend in‑services and workshops as directed
- Assist the teacher in supervising children in the classroom and across the school, including cafeteria, bus, etc.
- Participate in bus duty, hall monitoring, lunchroom duty, playground duty
- Maintain positive work habits
- Perform duties efficiently and productively
- Maintain and/or upgrade skills
- Promote and maintain positive pupil‑staff‑community relations
- Adhere to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Mineral County School's Policy 4210
- Perform duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor(s)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Meet definition of "Qualifications" per WV Code §18A‑4‑8b; demonstrate competency per WV Code §18A‑4‑8e (state–approved competency test)
- Criminal background check per WV Code §18‑5‑15c and/or §18A‑3‑10
- Hold one of the following certificates issued by the WVDE: ECCAT I, II, or III
- Successfully complete current state competency exam for aide classification per WV Code §18A‑4‑8e
- Ability to facilitate instruction and provide direct and indirect supervision of students under direction of a professional educator
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from administrators, students, staff, and public consistently with role duties
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic: add, subtract, multiply, divide
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations
- Effective interface with school personnel, parents, and external contacts
- Work well with children and adults; support academics and behavior management
- Demonstrate patience while working with children
- Learn new skills; flexibility and willingness to perform variety of tasks
- Work well with others; follow written and oral directions; complete assignments
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, staff
- Self‑motivated and works without direct supervision
- Interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Accurately perform assigned tasks
- Perform duties in full compliance with county requirements and board policies
- Promote harmonious working relationships with staff and external representatives
- Oral and written communication skills consistent with duties
- Interpersonal relationship skills consistent with duties
- Dress appropriately and conforms to safety standards
Employee must reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use technology such as computers and multimedia equipment, and perform repetitive motions. May frequently lift and/or move at least 50 pounds (100 pounds vertically for Special Education and Transportation positions). Must meet vision abilities required for reading and focus.
Work EnvironmentWork occurs indoors in an educational setting. Noise level moderate to loud (60–90 dB).
