Employment TermMinimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by the Mineral County Board of Education.
SalaryPay Grades E or F, $28,765 – $43,650 based on 200 days; may vary with experience and applicable supplements as per the Mineral County Salary Schedule.
EvaluationPerformance evaluated by the building principal or immediate supervisor in accordance with WV State Code §18‑A‑2‑12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and Mineral County Board of Education Evaluation Policy.
Job SummaryThe aide / paraprofessional/ECCAT assists teachers in Pre‑K or Kindergarten classrooms by implementing the instructional program, working directly with children in small groups or one‑to‑one, establishing rapport, motivating students, and reinforcing skills learned by teachers. The role also includes supervising students during transportation duties when assigned.
Performance Responsibilities- Assist the teacher with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials.
- Conduct learning games with students according to established procedures.
- Maintain regular attendance and comply with state and county policies.
- Maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.
- Anticipate and effectively address unforeseen crises involving large groups of children.
- Assist with supervision and instruction of children, including copying, cutting, coloring, and constructing materials and bulletin boards.
- Provide individualized and small‑group instruction to reinforce teacher‑taught skills.
- Assist in implementing lessons based on district and school objectives and student abilities.
- Assist with supervision of student passengers on buses and maintain a safe traveling environment, if assigned to transportation duties.
- Attend in‑services and workshops as directed.
- Assist with supervising students in the classroom and at various school locations, including instructional areas, the cafeteria, and the bus.
- Participate in bus duty, hall monitoring, lunchroom duty, and playground duty.
- Maintain positive work habits and perform duties efficiently and productively.
- Upgrade skills as needed.
- Promote and maintain positive pupil‑staff‑community relations.
- Adhere to the Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Mineral County School’s Policy 4210.
- Perform duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor(s).
- High school diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18‑A‑2‑5.
- Meet the definition of “Qualifications” in WV Code §18‑A‑4‑8b and demonstrate competency through the state‑approved competency test.
- Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18‑5‑15c and/or §18‑A‑3‑10.
- Hold or be qualified for the Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher certification (ECCAT I, II, or III) or have the ability to be certified.
- For individuals without ECCAT authorization, complete the required coursework and state competency exam for aide classifications.
- Ability to facilitate instruction and provide direct and indirect supervision of students under the direction of a professional educator.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions).
- Ability to work effectively with children, adults, and groups, including behavior management support.
- Ability to solve practical problems and adapt to varying classroom situations.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions and complete assignments independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and staff.
- Self‑motivated and able to work without direct supervision.
- Attire appropriate and conforming to safety standards.
Frequent lifting and moving of materials weighing at least 50 pounds (100 pounds vertically for Special Education and Transportation positions); frequent standing, walking, reaching, grasping, writing, speaking, hearing, seeing, using technology such as computers and multimedia equipment, and repetitive motions. Vision requirements include close vision for reading handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The role requires meeting demands from multiple people and interacting with the public and staff.
WorkEnvironment
