Pre‑K Special Needs Teacher – Berkeley County Schools
Berkeley County Schools seeks a Pre‑K Special Needs Teacher for the Pre‑K program. The successful candidate will teach the Pre‑K curriculum to students with special needs, including children with mild to moderate disabilities, using or modifying the general education curriculum to meet each child’s individual needs. The program is designed to prepare children for school based on early learning standards, offering a balance of activities such as active and quiet times, large and small group activities, center times, indoor and outdoor play, and child‑initiated and teacher‑planned activities.
Responsibilities include teaching with the Creative Curriculum, fostering physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth, developing class and safety rules and procedures, monitoring student progress, and maintaining appropriate records. A classroom aide is provided.
Endorsement Code: 4122__Preschool-Special Needs.
Salary and TermTeacher pay scale based upon degree level and verified years of experience. 200‑day employment term.
Qualifications- Hold or be able to obtain West Virginia teacher certification in pre‑school special needs.
- Collaborate effectively with the County’s Pre‑K program director, staff, parents/guardians, classroom aides, and other personnel.
- Demonstrate strong organization, flexibility, patience, and personal responsibility.
- Show effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Eligibility for first‑class permit, alternative certification, Teacher‑in‑Residence, or perm sub considered if a certified candidate is unavailable.
