Location: Franklin
Extra-Curricular IEP and SDI Coordinator
Total compensation:
Not to exceed $2,000 dollars; hours must occur outside the regular school day. Term of employment: school year.
Required qualifications:
- Valid West Virginia professional teaching certificate.
- Special education certification.
- Minimum of five years of successful experience in special education instruction, case management, or related leadership roles.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), West Virginia Policy 2419, West Virginia Code, and special education compliance requirements.
- Experience developing and implementing high-quality individualized education programs (IEPs).
- Experience providing professional development, coaching, or mentoring to educators.
Technical knowledge expertise:
- In writing standards-based, measurable SMART annual goals.
- In content-specific goal development aligned to West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards.
- In specially designed instruction (SDI) and evidence-based instructional practices.
- In progress monitoring systems, data collection, and student outcome analysis.
- In disability categories, evaluation procedures, and eligibility requirements.
- In transition planning and post-secondary readiness requirements.
- In the West Virginia Multi-Tiered System of Support (WV MTSS) framework.
Leadership and collaboration skills:
- Ability to provide instructional coaching and support to special education and general education staff.
- Strong facilitation skills for IEP meetings, collaborative problem-solving teams, and professional learning communities.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with teachers, administrators, service providers, families, and community partners.
- Ability to lead district-wide initiatives related to special education programming and compliance.
Data and problem-solving skills:
- Ability to analyze student achievement, behavior, attendance, and progress-monitoring data.
- Ability to use data to guide instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and compliance requirements.
- Ability to identify needs and develop practical solutions to support student success.
Communication skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to clearly explain legal requirements, instructional practices, and compliance expectations.
- Ability to prepare reports, training materials, and guidance documents.
- Skilled in providing constructive feedback and technical assistance to staff.
Professional dispositions:
- Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and ethical decision-making.
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, IDEA, and district policies.
- Shows initiative, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Promotes a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and high expectations for students with disabilities.
- Serves as a positive representative of the district and special education programs.
Multi-Tiered System of Support (WV MTSS) support:
- Support schools in the implementation of the West Virginia Multi-Tiered System of Support (WV MTSS) framework.
- Collaborate with school-based teams to analyze student performance data and identify appropriate interventions and supports.
- Assist educators in distinguishing between general education interventions and specially designed instruction required under an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Support the use of data-based decision making to monitor student progress and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional practices and interventions.
- Collaborate with administrators, instructional coaches, school counselors, and intervention teams to ensure alignment between MTSS processes and special education services.
- Provide guidance regarding the relationship between MTSS, special education eligibility, progress monitoring, and individualized programming.
- Assist schools in developing systems that support early identification of student needs and promote positive educational outcomes.
- Promote implementation of evidence-based academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports consistent with WV MTSS guidance and district initiatives.
Additional knowledge and skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the West Virginia Multi-Tiered System of Support (WV MTSS) framework.
- Knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices, intervention design, progress monitoring, and data analysis.
- Ability to facilitate collaborative problem-solving teams and provide instructional coaching to educators.
- Understanding of the relationship among general education supports, intervention systems, and special education services.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in special education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
- Experience with WVDE compliance monitoring, audits, or special education program review processes.
- Experience serving as a special education coordinator, instructional coach, lead teacher, or administrator.
