Qualifications:

  • Successful candidates must meet all requirements outlined in WVDE Policy 5202 for Criminal Justice Endorsement # 7710. Which includes but is not limited to the following: hold a bachelor's degree in the Criminal Justice field OR hold a bachelor's degree in Social Studies Education with a minor in criminal justice; OR hold an associate degree in the criminal justice field AND complete a minimum of two years (4,000 clock hours) of satisfactory and reasonably continuous wage earning work experience in the field;

    OR complete four years (8,000 clock hours) of satisfactory and reasonable continuous wage-earning experience in the criminal justice field. Candidates must also pass either the State Police Academy Training Certification OR Criminal Justice NOCTI to receive an initial CTE teaching permit (NOCTI #5281-Criminal Justice). Masters Degree preferred. Possess a Career Technical Education (CTE) Certificate or be eligible for a Career Technical Education (CTE) Certificate or permit through WVDE requirements to teach Criminal Justice (WVDE Endorsement #7710 – Criminal Justice).
  • Certifications as set forth by the West Virginia State Board of Education in Minimum Standards for the Licensure of West Virginia School Personnel.
  • Good evaluations and/or recommendations from professional associates, employers, and/or supervisors.
  • Ability to communicate with students, school personnel, and parents.
  • Education philosophy compatible with the Administrative Council.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement the West Virginia Department of Education program of study.
  • Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Utilizes instructional management systems which increase student learning and maximizes time on task.
  • Monitors student progress towards learning outcomes.
  • Maintains and upgrades his/her professional skills.
  • Promotes and maintains positive pupil-teacher-parent relationships.
  • Maintains professional work habits.
  • Serve as sponsor for youth group activities.
  • Meets all responsibilities based on State Board Policy 5310.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Director.
