Concord University is a small liberal arts college located in scenic Athens, WV near Pipestem State Park. Our campus offers a close-knit academic community and a beautiful rural setting that fosters engaged teaching, scholarship, and collegial collaboration. Our rural location provides a welcoming community with opportunities for meaningful faculty-student interaction inside and outside the classroom.

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at Concord University is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry. The position requires the ability to develop and teach the organic chemistry sequence with lab, introductory chemistry labs, and general chemistry. A Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field is required, although applicants who are ABD or with different qualifications may be considered for a visiting appointment.

Appointment at higher rank may be possible for well-qualified candidates. The Department values and actively supports innovative teaching and participation in undergraduate research and seeks candidates with similar ideals. The chemistry program supports majors in chemistry (including a biochemistry option and a geochemistry option), biology, health sciences, nursing, science education, and environmental geosciences. The Department maintains a diverse array of instrumentation for teaching and undergraduate research.

The candidate will teach a 12 contact-hour load/semester and will be expected to engage in professional development that enhances their teaching, develop organic chemistry lecture and lab experiences, assume a role in formal and informal student mentoring, supervise undergraduate research, and participate in departmental activities and University governance including contributions to programmatic assessment efforts. The successful candidate will participate in routine upkeep and maintenance of laboratory facilities and engage in safe and ethical laboratory practices as a role model to students.

Applicants should submit a cover letter addressing teaching philosophy, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching (student evaluations or other documentation if available), and contact information for three professional references. Applications will only be accepted through Concord University's online application site. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Concord University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and encourages all qualified candidates to apply.
