Job Description

The High School Science Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, standards-based science instruction that promotes student achievement, scientific inquiry, critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application of scientific concepts. The teacher will create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment that meets the academic and developmental needs of all students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver effective science instruction aligned with the West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards.
  • Teach assigned high school science courses based on certification, student needs, and the master schedule.
  • Develop lesson plans that include laboratory investigations, scientific inquiry, technology, hands-on learning, and real-world applications.
  • Establish and communicate clear learning objectives and expectations for student performance.
  • Use multiple instructional strategies to address diverse learning styles, abilities, and educational needs.
  • Assess student learning through classroom assignments, laboratory activities, projects, formative assessments, and summative assessments.
  • Use student achievement and progress-monitoring data to adjust instruction and provide appropriate interventions or enrichment.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Teach and enforce all laboratory safety procedures and properly supervise students during laboratory activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, assessments, and academic progress.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with students, parents, guardians, administrators, and other staff members.
  • Collaborate with colleagues through professional learning communities, faculty meetings, and school improvement activities.
  • Participate in the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports process and provide appropriate academic and behavioral supports.
  • Implement individualized education programs, Section 504 plans, and other student support plans as required.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom management and consistently enforce school and district expectations.
  • Participate in professional development and remain current with effective science instructional practices.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties, activities, and school events.
  • Follow all Boone County Schools policies, West Virginia Board of Education policies, state laws, and professional standards of conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
Qualifications
  • Hold or be eligible to hold a valid West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate with the appropriate science specialization or endorsement for the assigned grade levels and courses.
  • Meet all certification and licensure requirements established by the West Virginia Department of Education.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of science content, laboratory procedures, instructional technology, assessment practices, and effective classroom management.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and community members.
  • Successfully complete all required background checks and employment requirements.
Physical and Professional Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential duties of the position, including standing for extended periods, supervising laboratory activities, operating instructional and laboratory equipment, and responding appropriately during emergency situations. Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with West Virginia Board of Education Policy 5310, Boone County Schools policies, and applicable state laws and regulations.
