qualifications: minimal qualifications will include a ba degree and valid west virginia teaching certification endorsed in general science 5-9 or 5-adult, elementary education k-6, multi-subjects k-8 commensurate with the assignment. Applicants must possess the ability to successfully manage an instructional program for middle school-aged students.

duties & responsibilities:

  • foster a classroom climate conducive to learning
  • develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time
  • instruct pupils in subject areas as specified in state law, curricula, and guidelines established by the local board of education and administrative regulations
  • provide individual and small group instruction whenever appropriate
  • adapt curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and special abilities
  • establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment
  • supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day, as required
  • evaluate each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding; monitor progress toward learning outcomes; prepare progress reports
  • communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress; promote positive pupil-teacher-parent relationships
  • maintain basic attendance accounting and business services, as required
  • serve as a resource person on interdepartmental level
  • adhere to all federal, state, and local educational policies
  • perform all other duties as assigned, according to need, by the school principal and/or superintendent

working conditions: 200 days 7:30-3:30 salary classification: salary based on experience and education level per roane county salary schedule. Expected range: $42,880 (0 years + bachelor's) - $75,219 (35 years + doctorate).

supervisor: principal (sms) performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with wv state code 18a-2-12, wv state board policy 5310, and rcs policy 550, evaluation of professional personnel.
