Teacher Of Multicategorical Special Needs/Autistic Students

The teacher of multicategorical special needs/autistic students is assigned to deliver a comprehensive program in accordance with state law and West Virginia board of education and county policies and regulations. Holds or qualifies for a West Virginia professional teaching certificate endorsed for multicategorical special education and autism or specific learning disabilities, mental impairment-mild/moderate, behavior disorders and autism at the grade levels applicable to the assignment.

Length of employment: 200 days.

Responsibilities include implementing a program in accordance with federal, state and county laws, policies and regulations; fostering a classroom climate conducive to learning; utilizing instructional management models that increase student learning; monitoring student progress toward mastery of instructional goals and objectives; communicating effectively with the educational community and parents/guardians on a regular basis; meeting professional responsibilities; participating in the development of the individualized education program for each student assigned to the special needs classroom;

participating in appropriate aspects of the due process system; providing activities appropriate for the special needs students assigned for services; communicating regularly with parents/guardians on the progress and/or deficiencies of the student; providing consultative services to classroom teachers regarding the education of special needs students, if applicable; providing direct services to the special needs students outside the regular classroom; providing resource materials and assistance to the student's teacher of record, if applicable;

screening and evaluating students referred for services in assigned area of responsibility; completing and submitting all reports in a timely manner as required by law, the West Virginia department of education and/or the county board of education; reporting the presence of any situation that may be harmful to the health and safety of the students and/or staff; identifying and referring for screening and evaluation any child who has other learning deficiencies;

advising the principal of the presence of any situation that may require immediate intervention so as not to hinder the instructional program; accepting responsibility for the behavior of the students assigned; supervising students at all times in accordance with state, county and school policies; attending all faculty senate and other required meetings; fulfilling annual continuing education requirements and attending other required training programs;

maintaining professional work habits; maintaining and upgrading professional skills; and performing other duties as assigned by the school principal or the director of special education.
