Based on experience and education level per Pocahontas County Schools salary schedule.
Term of employment:
Effective upon board approval for the remainder of the school year. Term of employment shall be 200 days each year thereafter.
The Science Teacher is a classroom teacher responsible for providing high-quality instruction that promotes student achievement and growth in science. The teacher develops and delivers standards-based instruction aligned with the West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards, creates and maintains a safe and engaging learning environment, and supports students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. The teacher may be assigned to teach science courses consistent with the employee's certification and the instructional needs of Pocahontas County Schools.
The Science Teacher performs duties consistent with the expectations of a professional educator as defined by West Virginia Code, West Virginia Board of Education policy, and Pocahontas County Board of Education policy.
Valid West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate with endorsement(s) in Science. Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-10.
Additional minimum requirements include: applicants who have recent unsatisfactory evaluations will not be considered eligible for consideration, applicants who demonstrate unsatisfactory interview performance are not eligible for consideration, applicants who receive unfavorable reference recommendations will not be eligible for consideration, and applicants who have been dismissed or who have had their contracts non-renewed for cause by another school district are not eligible for consideration.

Establishes positive relationships with students and creates a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment conducive to academic success and scientific exploration. - Managing Student Behavior:
Maintains clear expectations and procedures that promote responsible behavior, student engagement, and a productive learning environment. - Organizing the Learning Environment:
Maintains an organized classroom environment that supports learning, ensures accessibility of materials, and complies with all safety regulations and procedures. - Ensuring Safety:
Implements and enforces appropriate safety procedures consistent with district, state, and federal guidelines.

Utilizes a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies, learning experiences, and appropriate technologies to engage students in meaningful learning. - Communicating Clearly:
Provides accurate, coherent, and effective instruction with clear expectations and directions. Uses questioning, discussion, and active listening techniques to support student understanding. - Providing Timely Feedback:
Offers specific, constructive, and timely feedback to students regarding academic performance and progress toward learning goals. - Demonstrating Flexibility:
Adjusts instructional methods, pacing, and resources to meet student needs and respond to assessment results and classroom dynamics.
