Hold or qualify for posted classification according to WV Code; hold Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher certification or have the ability to be certified for Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher;
additional coursework is required for ALL who currently hold Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher authorizations for prekindergarten and kindergarten, permanent or temporary; and those who do not hold Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher authorization

715 AM – 315 PM (may include both classroom and transportation duties: transportation duty times may vary based on student needs)

200 Days

Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Mineral County Salary Scale, Pay Grades A, B, C, D, or F, commensurate with experience and education level.

ITINERANT CLASSROOM AIDE/PARAPROFESSIONAL

Principal (Assistant Director of Support Services in the case of a Transportation Aide)

Non-exempt

Minimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by the Mineral County Board of Education.

Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Mineral County Salary Scale, Pay Grades A, B, C, D, or F, commensurate with experience and education level.

Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314 and Mineral County Board of Education Evaluation Policy.

The aide/paraprofessional assists the teacher(s) in a variety of ways to implement the instructional program including working directly with children in small groups or on a one-to-one basis; to establish effective rapport with students assigned to the classroom; to motivate students to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good educational foundation, in accordance with each pupil's ability. The aide/paraprofessional assigned to a school bus assists with the supervision of student passengers on the bus, including securing student passengers in various types of restraint.

• Assists teacher as needed with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials;
• Conducts learning games with students according to established procedures;
• Maintains regular attendance and complies with State Law and County policies and regulations;
• Maintains an environment that is safe for students and conducive to learning;
• Anticipates and effectively addresses unforeseen crises associated with working with large groups of children;
• Assists with supervision and instruction of children; copying, cutting, coloring, etc., to construct materials and bulletin boards.
• Provides individualized and small-group instruction to reinforce skills that have been taught by the teacher;
• Assists in implementing lessons based on district and school objectives and needs and abilities of students;
• Assists with supervision of student passengers on buses and maintains a safe traveling environment, if assigned to transportation duties;
• Attends in-services and workshops as directed;
• Assists the teacher in supervision of children in the classroom and to various locations in the school including, but not limited to, instructional areas, the cafeteria, and the bus;
• Participates in bus duty, hall monitoring, lunchroom duty, playground duty;
• Maintains positive work habits;
• Performs duties efficiently and productively;
• Maintains and/or upgrades skills;
• Promotes and maintains positive pupil-staff-community relations;
• Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Mineral County School's Policy 4210; and
• Performs duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor(s).
