Qualifications:

Holds a West Virginia professional teaching certificate as established by the West Virginia Department of Education.

Performance Responsibilities:
Valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate with Certification in Early Childhood – Special Needs with an Endorsement in Autism or Eligibility for permit and agrees to fulfill certification requirements. Provides a variety of behavior management techniques in a crisis situation before resorting to passive restraint. Exhibits the physical attributes to passively restrain both male and female students who display aggressive and violent behavior over an extended period of time.

Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to write clearly and concisely using correct grammar and spelling. Knowledge/experience of how to interpret and apply test data. Knowledge/experience in providing established procedures for medically fragile students. Knowledge/Experience developing and implementing IEP's. Knowledge/experience in the appropriate identification and placement for exceptional students. Past experience preferred. Training and experience in a variety of strategies including PECS, TEACCH, Discrete Trial Teaching, Social Stories, Applied Behavior Analysis, Co-Teaching, and Crisis Prevention.

Willing to receive extensive training in ABA.

Knowledge of:
All areas of special education including: behavior management techniques, learning theories and curriculum development. Current laws and regulations pertaining to students with disabilities. Policies and procedures pertaining to IEP's. Assessment practices and statistics relevant to the behavioral sciences.

Preferred Experience:

Minimum of two years providing specialized academic instruction to students with disabilities.

Skills:

Must be able to work with administrators, teachers, classified personnel, parents and students. Plan, organize and prepare IEP's, behavior and transition plans as appropriate. Exercise initiative and possess mature judgment.

Employment Term: 200 days

Salary:
In accordance with the Brooke County Teacher's Salary Schedule.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Brooke County Board of Education Policy of Evaluation of Professional Personnel
