Based on Taylor County Salary Scale

Qualifications:

Masters degree in guidance and counseling or Valid certification as established by state certification requirements

Exhibits strong written and oral communication skills

Demonstrates knowledge of current counseling methods

Exhibits knowledge and/or experience in intervention techniques in destructive behavior patterns that prohibit students from learning

Exhibits ability to determine individual school needs and deliver appropriate program(s)

Exhibits ability to work effectively with the school's administration, teaching staff, and parents

Demonstrates ability to recognize students who are in a crisis situation and provide appropriate intervention techniques

Job Responsibilities:

Respects confidential information and rights of privacy

Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis

Strives to implement the Board's philosophy of education and content standards and objectives

Assists in the maintenance of accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, Board policy, and administrative regulation

Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy

Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral programs of all assigned students

Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others

Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning

Provides students with the opportunity to participate in special programs/events which may be available beyond their regularly scheduled classes

Conducts one's self in a positive professional manner at all times to enhance good public relations, loyalty, good ethics and cooperation with all personnel

Suggests recommendations that aid teachers in dealing with academic and behavior problems

Keeps the principal informed on issues, needs, and current status in his/her area of responsibility

Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required

Interprets, executes and supports the policies and administrative regulations of the Board of Education

Fulfills continuing education and in-service requirements provided by the county to enhance professional growth as required by state mandates

Helps students to define and clarify their self-concepts as these relate to their environment

Helps students to accept themselves as individuals

Assists students in decision making and problem solving

Aids students in dealing with personal-social concerns

Helps students clarify personal concepts

Aids students in explaining their own ideas, feelings, attitudes and needs

Counsels with disciplinary cases to effect behavioral change

Presents students with opportunities to understand their personal behavior

Assists teachers to initiate and conduct instructional programs to facilitate the personal and social development of students in the classroom

Employs a variety of instructional materials and techniques when conducting classroom discussions

Counsels with parents to aid them to better understand their children's development in relation to their potentialities

Makes recommendations to parents to assist them in dealing with their children's individual needs

Develops a knowledge of the world of work through career education programs, which utilize the school and community resources

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time, assign
